loader/Makefile.in changed in 1.7.4 so you need to add -ldl or @LIBDL@ to
EXTRALIBS instead.

Change the start of loader/Makefile.in to
MODCFLAGS = @BUILTINFLAG@
EXTRALIBS = @LIBPTHREAD@ -ldl
