The program I needed was on a cover CD supplied with PC Magazine December
1996.It could not be installed except through the general menu system on the
CD. That had to be attained by launching GO.EXE. That did indeed come up but
when I selected the program that I wanted - COMMENCE.EXE and clicked 'Install'
it failed with the error message shown earlier.

I would repeat that when I tried it using the original SSD on the Asus PC901
netbook, it installed flawlessly. Same operating system. Same version.

As for legality, the publishers website is http://www.commence.com/. Being a US
developer, I believe that they have 70 years copyright protection. The 'help'
dialog claims copyright 1988-1996 whatever that means.
