The ibus changes did nothing for me, but I am able to get around the problem by
turning off/on autorepeat in a shell script that launches my game:

    xset r off

    wine game.exe

    xset r on

The only issue with this setup is autorepeat is disabled system-wide, which is
rather annoying.
