Encounter this issue with the folloiwn setup:
Ubuntu 14.04 LTS on a Samsung NC10 partition.
Wine 1.7.22
Kindle4PC downloaded from Amazon.

Iseue was resolved after installing the required fonts.

Kindle is now working correctly.
