debug patch

The log is incomplete, but as far as I can tell from the part that's posted,
the code in commit c1032e977bb9f850e3aea28dd79e3d7c2244cd6c shouldn't be
triggered. If you apply the attached debug patch, does the FIXME it introduces
get printed?
