Does it make a difference if you enable/disable blob shadows in UT2003?

I have shadows in both games with the default settings. In UT2003 demo if I
enable blob shadows then shadows are indeed missing.
Tested with nouveau/mesa git and wine-1.7.48-100-ge3c6777.
