According to steam

MINIMUM: 
OS: Windows XP 
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 1.8GHz dual core 
Memory: 1 GB RAM 
Graphics: Onboard graphics chipset with 256MB video RAM 
DirectX: Version 9.0c 
Storage: 1 GB available space 
Sound Card: DirectSound.

It basically should work just out of box with wine. Have you tried setting
d43_compiler as native builtin in winecfg settings?
