On second thoughts additional, I was looking at doing
something similar for linux installers using
/dev/boot.ini and the registry.

If you get anything working that way I'll take a look
at making an installer that reads all the users
settings from the windows registry for something like
knopix and maybe look at implementing some of the
windows settings in wine e.g. setting desktop
wallpaper &co..
