Speaking of the graphics page...

1. Is there a reason why we allow the user to choose software vs 
hardware shaders?
    (i.e. why isn't this a developers' option, or no option at all)

2. Is there a reason  why we allow the user to disable vertex and/or 
pixel shaders?
