I use ATI's fglrx:

grep VideoRAM /var/log/Xorg.0.log
(--) fglrx(0): VideoRAM: 131072 kByte, Type: DDR SGRAM / SDRAM

Seems to be right *g*

But again, Xorg log is also only local...
