Second IPX network should work (if this is the c&c version with updated ipx) but you need root as plain users don't have enough permissions to create a raw ipx socket.
Tested that, none of the opengl modes work well:

disabled: In the menu I only get the menu, not the text that's written on it.
readtex: I get a white texture with only the text
textex: Nothing at all
readdraw: fails too

I'll play without opengl I think.
