I guess you're right, I wasn't aware of the fact that 
GetVolumeInformation already does such a job.

yes, i had a quick look at GetVolumeInformation , seems to me it'll be quite a
massive change. maybe someone more familiar with GetVolumeInformation code is
more suitable to do this job
