Hello everyone,<br><br>I am Bradley Tucker, a junior computer science major at Tennessee Tech University, and I am very interested in participating in the Google Summer of Code. I have a strong passion for developing video games, and it sounds like working with the Wine Project this summer would be incredibly helpful, informative, and fun.<br><br>I'm not sure exactly what I'm supposed to do to get started, so I'll just tell you a little about me and what I'd like to do.<br><br>First of all, I am primarily a Windows user who is trying learn more about Linux and all the wonderful things it can do. I have experience programming in C++ and Java, but I am a quick learner and would gladly become fluent in another language, if necessary. I do not have any experience working in an open-source community, but again, I am always ready to learn and to try new things. I would like to participate in the Google Summer of Code because I feel it will help me gain necessary skills and knowledge that will help me once I graduate, while benefiting all others who use open-source software. While I may not be the most qualified individual right now, I promise that if I am selected to work for the Wine Project this summer, I will quickly do whatever I can to become as qualified as possible. I am a sociable and easy-to-get-along-with sort of guy, but I am extremely determined and hard-working, and I will do whatever I can to help the project progress.<br><br>As I said before, I am very interested in gaming, so naturally Wine is project that I believe I will thoroughly enjoy working on. Firstly, I would be very interested in improving or testing any Direct3D features. Testing and finding bugs for recent releases would be tremendously beneficial in helping me get ready for a career in the gaming industry. So, finding bugs and ways to optimize recent releases would probably be my top choice for working on a project with Wine. I also enjoy playing classic games as much as the latest releases. The
suggested idea of "implementing DOS graphics modes more faithfully" is
one I would find tremendously interesting and hopefully informative. I
don't know enough about Wine yet to give many specifics, but I would
gladly work on any bugs or features that my mentor would find most
crucial. While these are the topics that stood out most to me, I would honestly be willing to help out in any area that could use my help.<br><br>As I said, I don't know if this is the best way to introduce myself or if this is the best way to present the ideas I would like to possibly work on.
