crypt32/tests(1/4): Test return value rather than output buffer before checking buffer contents (clang)

This patch series removes a bunch of clang warnings.  Mostly the
warnings were harmless, but it's time consuming to sort out the "good"
warnings from the bad ones, so I opted for a big cleanup.  I coalesced
some patches that are conceptually similar, rather than send a handful
of one-line patches.
