well, it's a Linux issue. Wine uses the underlying Linux features.
if they are not configured correctly, they won't work
if you run Linux 2.2.X (not 2.4.X), you can try
cat /dev/sndstat
you should at least get information on either Synth or MIDI devices
if not, check your distribution information to setup correctly the
sound interface
