We understand you fine.  The problem you have left, though, is that the
installer for an "OS" is not an application program of that "OS", but in
fact an instance of the "OS".  It might use application programs as
tools, as a linux install might use FI rpm, cpio, tar and gzip, but the
installer itself is not an application program.  If there are .cab files
on the distribution, maybe extract.exe can get at them.  you can run
that with wine, or with dosemu.  expand.exe might work on files named
blah.ex_, if you run into some of those.
