Word and Excel 97 are reported to have worked at some time under
Wine. That don't mean they still work, as Wine has many regressions.
You can try to post a bug report (documentation/bugs) to fix them.
Check first if no Wine 'drive' is write protected (especially the one
corresponding to temp directory). If there is none, put on a web
page a trace with -debugmsg +relay,+dosfs,+file with a run of
your app demonstrating the problem.
