Winsock and Telnet

This may be far fetched but hear me out.

One of the only things keeping windows on my computer is that I have been 
addicted to the game of MajorMud.  Now to stay ahead in this game one must 
script 24/7.  This is been made very easy and become the de facto standard 
to use the program MegaMud to script this game.  MegaMud is a 32-bit 
Windows terminal program written specifically for this game.  I attempted 
to use it using wine under Slackware 8.0 kernel 2.4.5.  I got the 
application to start but when I attempt to connect to my favorite bbs I get 
a general Telnet error (megamud app side).

Is this an impossible task?  How hard is it to learn to write my own linux 
scripts to interface with a telnet application?
