As indeed it is -- Hoyle, in this particular instance.

Selecting MCGA instead of EGA solved the unsupported mode problem,
although (as predicted) the default colors are wrong. In addition, to be
playable, the window needs to be scaled up about four times. However,
neither of these issues should be difficult to correct.

Of more concern is the fact that the program was attempting to play with
the DAC registers, and did not exit cleanly -- leaving the game window on
my screen, and leaving X in such a state that I ultimately had to reboot
to get everything back to normal.
