Ben,
  the error messages you described may or may not be
the cause of the crash. To get more information about
the crash you can get a relay trace as described here:

Configure the debugger:
http://www.winehq.org/docs/wine-devel/debugger.shtml
With debugger you can get information about backtrace
of the crash - run command "bt".

I also advise you create a bug report in Wine bug
tracking system:
