Well, to be perfectly honest, I guess it was real case of not RTFMing .
. . it works with a Windows path, but not with a Unix path, i.e.
starting the app with

wine c:\\Program\ Files\\C4DNET_R73\ PC\\C4D_NET_Client.exe

it works fine, but not if I do

wine /home/frank/.wine/fake_windows/Program\ Files . . .

I just thought I'd add that for completeness' sake.
