comport prob's

Gotta program ,CX Programmer for Omron PLC's, which can't see com ports. This is crucial for  uploading and downloading ladder programs. I've never been successful using wine proper, so I'm running it with codeweavers crossover office under unsupported apps.
 
I've checked the config file it shows the "com1"="/dev/ttyS0"
i've also 
chmod 666 /dev/ttyS*
and
chmod 777 /dev/ttyS*
 
the starts and runs fine it just can't see the com ports
 
there is a background process, CXServer, which controls the ports but i'm not sure how to start troubleshooting.
 
any help either suggestions or info on troubleshoot com ports would be greatly appreciated
