emule on wine. working but low performance.

 hi, I usually try to run emule on wine as it is de fastest p2p client i would like to use it in linux. And it works, i have used it in gentoo, but the problem is it connects to servers, upload files, but does not download anything. What is the problem? do i need a really fast machine? (i am using a k7 500mghz) sould i be patient and wait? has anybody downloaded anything with emule on wine?
