Thanks for the reply

I have now added the registry key Software\Wine\VDM\Ports to HKEY_CURRENT_USER
and have added /dev/parport0 with 777 permissions

I am still getting the following errors as well as the scanner not found 
message box.

fixme:vxd:VXD_Open Unknown/unsupported VxD L"plkscnr.vxd". Try setting Windows 
version to 'nt40' or 'win31'.

version to 'nt40' or 'win31'.

Could these errors be causing the problem and do you have any suggestion as to 
what I need to do to sort it out?

As mentioned previously I couldn't find the vxd files on my working windows 
computer.
