I'm an idiot. When I assumed you were using Money 2006 because it had
the no text problem, I searched for bugs about it and didn't find
anything relevant. Then when I found out it was Money 98, I didn't
look for bugs affecting that version.

This bug suggests that someone had it working with a very old version
(whatever was before 20050310):
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2804. He probably had to get a
lot of dlls from windows, and I don't think that version had an IE
replacement (so I don't know if he installed it), but at least now you
know it's possible. Or maybe you knew already because you saw that
page..but at least now I know. If you want to try that version, you
should probably use a separate WINEPREFIX and run that version
directly from the source tree (that way you'd still be able to use a
recent Wine for other things).

I still think it'd be better to use the most recent version if possible.

It looks like I don't have those IE-version-related keys either (and I
do have the same subfolders). Presumably you would have to go to
Internet Explorer in the registry and make new string values for them.
The phrase "some components of Internet Explorer" and the fact that
you had to copy more than a few dlls makes me think this probably
won't work.

What dlls did you have to copy from windows? If they're parts of IE
that Wine doesn't provide, it's probably not worth trying anymore to
make Wine's IE work. IE components would be likely to expect things of
the IE dlls that a normal app wouldn't. Then again, maybe they're all
relatively innocent things like MFC42. Depending on which ones they
are you may want to file a bug about either the missing dlls or
Money's failure to start.

So I guess the thing to do, except in the very unlikely case where
editing the registry works, would be to install MSIE6 (ok, so that's
what you were doing from the start; still, it might have worked, and
at least this way we can get some useful information so the developers
can try to make it work), set the proper dll overrides so Wine's IE
isn't used (hopefully you know what those are because I don't), and
try to run it again. Hopefully it won't crash in ILGetSize like it did
for the guy who filed that bug.
