The problem with your method is that not everyone has cabextract.

I'll hapilly update the how-to as soon as there is a definitive answer
as on how to run Internet Explorer (i.e. what overrides are needed). 

As for the installation, the main problem is a bug in Microsoft server
(see Bug #5409 
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5409)

A patch to add inseng.dll to Wine has been sent friday, it'll make
downloading of inseng.dll not necessary anymore.
