[Wine] Changing wine's windows\temp directory?

Hello all,

I'm trying to install Paradox 7 under wine.

On wine 0.9.22 the setup screen blocked the whole desktop, with possible dialog
windows underneath it; I have no idea how to get around that, but there's a
newer version of wine out, so I tried that instead.

On wine 0.9.26 I get a popup error message that says:
  Internal Error: -4.
  You need at least 1144 KB to copy the installation files to c:\windows\temp.
  Free some space or set the TEMP environment variable to another drive.
  Unable to start installation. [OK]

Google says that Paradox 7 needs a temp directory on a drive that's less than 2
GB in size. I have an USB stick, but how would I set wine's windows temp
directory to that? I've tried changing the temp setting in system.reg, but if it
that's the way to do it then I'm doing something wrong, cos that doesn't work at
all at all, and the system.reg gets overwritten all the time anyway.

Any hints?
