[Wine] error "compressed file wasn't extractet" but file exists

I am trying to update EndNote X1 with a patch that improves the handling of odt files (patch and info at http://www.endnote.com/support/ENX101_Win_updater.asp). Wine (0.9.60) crashes on installation with the message:

err:msi:ACTION_InstallFiles compressed file wasn't extracted (L"C:\\windows\\winsxs\\x86_Microsoft.VC80.ATL_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.762_x-ww_cbb27474\\ATL80.dll")

but ATL80.dll is in the required folder.
Is it possible that the path is to long / invalid for Wine? I'd like to test Endnote with Openoffice and need this update for it!

PS: tested with Ubuntu 7.10 and 8.04
