"Windows XP" is just the System Wine seems to be for the Windows-Applications On my Ubuntu 8.10(Intrepid Ibex) i am just using ALSA and OSS in Wine and it works. Some more details to your System were good. 64-Bit? which Ubuntu? which Soundcard?
