thanks... wine gecko didn't do anything at all, its not really running in a web browser, they are just pulling IE libraries to do the things.
I think I actually narrowed it down more...

it loads in a log in page, then throws up a picture in the background behind it. That picture fails to load and gives the error and covers up the whole screen in IE7 rendering on 1.1.24 1.1.25 and 1.1.26 ... and works on my older 1.1.18 and 1.1.21 installs...

I see the log in info for a split second without the background picture before the background picture fires up. IE7 is a PITA to get working right anyways, so maybe I just need to play around more with it and try some newer versions of the Win deps it needs in the prefix first.

I make custom Mac .app bundles for all my versions of Wine that are totally self contained with their own WINEPREFIX inside of them, thats all set from the launching scripts of double clicking the .app ... so basically I try each version with its own prefix, and have done full installs on each one or everything except the actual game. It downloads 3gb, so its not feasable to keep redoing it. I did it on 1.1.21 that worked, and again on 1.1.26 that didnt.. have tried both installed/downloaded versions across all installs.

oh and i tried this in Crossover as well to test, and .. CX Mac based of 1.1.18 the IE part works fine, but basically the same trouble with a not yet released version of CX games based on 1.1.25.
