[Wine] Far Cry installer fails: "Run setup32.exe on 32 bit Windows"

I've been having this problem since at least 1.1.25; I've tried it under each updated version I've installed, up through 1.1.34 currently.

I'm running on Gentoo, with the DVD-ROM.  I mount the DVD and cd to its root directory.  I run:

The first thing that pops up is a dialog asking for the installation language.  I click on OK for the default (English).  A new dialog pops up (preparing to install) with a progress bar, which quickly goes to 100%.  Then a 2nd dialog pops up, then disappears and an error dialog appears with the following message:

Run setup32.exe on 32 bit Windows, or run setup64.exe on 64 bit Windows!

(Note that there is no setup64.exe on the disc.)  I click the OK, then it goes to the installer window and says the installer failed; I click the Finish button and the installer exits.  The above output appears at various stages between the various windows.

I haven't been able to find any tips about this on the AppDB or the forums.  According to the AppDB, it should work when installing via Steam.  While I can try that (it's currently only $5), I'd like to see if I can get the installer working with the DVD that I already bought.
