OK, following 
Code:
apt-get install cabexract

 IE6 gets installed.  Now the program can (at least partially) talk to the internet.

Except when receiving information; then I get an error message that says "Internet Explorer can not download %.1023ws from %.1023ws

I see others reporting %.1023ws errors regarding both WINE & Code Weavers.  Any idea what it is?
