Ouch.   I feel for your predicament.  I'm afraid I would resort to using WinXP (if you own a license) in a VM, in the same situation.

Even if you find a workaround, promise me that you will at least write a letter to whomever's doing the lecture and the head of the CS department about the issues with DRM and vendor lock-in.
