Font smoothing is not turned on by default. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16729

Wingdings is showing up on the font list in Word because Office 2003  installs it and a bunch of other fonts in  ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/Fonts. Office apps should see all those fonts as well as any Truetype fonts you have installed systemwide.
