If you generate a resume with OpenOffice.org, and a potential employer reads or prints it with MS Word, there is a chance it will look a little different. Different means crappy. Crappy says you don't care enough to make your resume look good.

PDF is a "standard" too, export your OpenOffice.org docs to that. If they don't accept that, explain in advance that the document has been made in a different office suite that might not have exported the file 100% correctly.
