Big Kernel lock was also being turned on in the VFS at times for so called stablity requirements when passing off to filesystem drivers.   Those are also gone in 2.6.32 for most filesystems. 

Between both its ouch.  For serial port work the Big Kernel Lock ones are a bigger issue.   I was trying to keep it simple.  I should have said big kernel lock problems.
