Wait, are you saying you reinstalled Ubuntu entirely just because Wine no longer worked? Dude, you seriously don't need to do that, there's a directory in your home directory called .wine (it's hidden) that you can remove or rename to have Wine start with something that's equivalent to a "clean installation of Windows" (well, Wine, anyway).
