[Wine] Problem updating wine

Firstly I'm quite new to linux so don't hit me too hard!
I have two linked windows programs I'm trying to get to run. They are part of a set by moneysoft: Money Manager Business Edition (which works ok) and Final Accounts, which will not load. It seems that there was a bug fixed for Money Manager (number was 14000's) and it needed wine 1.1.28. I'm running 1.1.30
I've tried to a general update to update wine to the latest (I'm using ubuntu 9.10) but get an error thus:
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
Can anybody help me please. I HAVE to run these programs and its the only thing that's stopping me from giving up on windows for my next pc.
thanks
