It might if it is USB to serial that does not get recognised by the
driver... (The website mentions that the USB version is no faster than
the serial version, which make it seem likely that it is...)

Playing with the parameters for modprobe can then get the relevant
ttyUSB devices to appear... (it used to be needed for some 3G
dongles...)
