Yeah, for some reason, Portal's menu dosen't render for me. Maybe it's because I instaled it outside of Steam (Steam is EVIL and full of DRMs!). Anyway! I use a Nvidia 7300GT card with the 185 drivers. I'm on Wine 1.2 rc5 I was unsure I a bug had been filled about that or not, so I preferred to leave it as it is.
