For most programs to work through wine right now you need to use the 32
bit wine, even on a 64 bit operating system. Many distros that use a
repository system will either have 32 bit wine available in the 64 bit
repositories or their forums will have instructions for where to grab 32
bit wine. You will also need to be sure you have the 32 bit version of
your graphics drivers and of the support libraries for wine. Many
distros will have a "package" or "core" version of 32 bit wine that
should have all the basic libraries and such included in it for you, but
you will have to search for your video driver.
64 bit wine is still a work in progress and so it is common to have
trouble with games when using it. Very few windows games are written to
take advantage of 64 bit operating systems yet so you usually don't lose
anything by using 32 bit wine.
You may have best luck uninstalling 64 bit wine before installing 32 bit
to cut down on confusion. You may be able to move any game folders out
of your wine directory to somewhere safe and then move them back in
after the new install, if that will save you download time/megs.
