[Wine] Wine with Ati 3d Card

Hi


I have a Radeon Ati 3d graphics external card in my machine.
I have about 512 mb vram and 4 gb ram
and intel core duo 2.4 ghz 

I have never experienced any problems with my graphics card
untill i used it with wine on ubuntu.

Suddenly I could not play the games I used to play in windows xp.

I tested doom 95 and halo evolved and they both could not run and 
stuttered. 

I have no problems installing a windows version of filezilla
so it would seem everytime i use wine with my 3d card
it does work. 

So does this mean I have to buy another 3d card or 
what else to do?
