32bit applications do not work with WINE that has been compiled for
64bit. Full stop.

Some GNU+Linux distributions have worked around this by providing 32bit
libraries to support WINE binaries compiled for 32bit in parallel to the
rest of the system. I myself use Archlinux, whose users generally frown
on mixing bitness in a single installation in that way. Instead we
prefer a 32bit chroot bottled environment.

I compile WINE (almost daily) from source in my 32bit chroot and launch
the applications I install there with the schroot program. If you are
