I am also interested in getting QQ to work under Wine. I really do not care if it constantly shows me as "away."

My reasons for being interested in the Wine client are similar to those you stated. First, the Linux client is only available in Chinese. The second issue is the lack of features, it will not even allow me to join a group. The third issue with the Linux client is the constant crashing. I can seldom send a half dozen messages before the client aborts.

I tried Pidgin; but, it just plain does not work.

As such, I am interested in what you have done to get QQ working on your computer under Wine.  Please be aware, I am a complete Wine novice.
