Hi,

is it possible that you have an ATI graphics card? This could be the problem, as the graphics-drivers of ATI for linux have difficulties with some graphics-settings.
try setting the graphics of the game to minimum (except resolution), and/or try running it in a wine emulated desktop.

you also have to use the proprietary driver for your Graphics card, as none of the open source drivers really supports 3D.
