[Wine] Steam Client Lockups

I've not had any (uncommon) issues with the Steam client before but my new Notepad is having a rather major issue at the moment.

The Steam client seems to start up (and shows the small connecting Window) but then hangs there for several minutes. Terminal output looks normal:

Code:
enverex at bahamut ~/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Steam $ wine steam.exe
fixme:process:SetProcessShutdownParameters (00000100, 00000000): partial stub.
fixme:toolhelp:CreateToolhelp32Snapshot Unimplemented: heap list snapshot
fixme:toolhelp:Heap32ListFirst : stub
fixme:mixer:ALSA_MixerInit No master control found on HD-Audio Generic, disabling mixer
err:ole:CoGetClassObject class {77f10cf0-3db5-4966-b520-b7c54fd35ed6} not registered
err:ole:CoGetClassObject no class object {77f10cf0-3db5-4966-b520-b7c54fd35ed6} could be created for context 0x1
fixme:wbemprox:wbem_locator_ConnectServer 0x214060, L"ROOT\\CIMV2", (null), (null), (null), 0x00000080, (null), (nil), 0x44abe60)
fixme:winhttp:WinHttpGetIEProxyConfigForCurrentUser returning no proxy used

And then as it starts responding again I get the following messages:

Code:
fixme:win:RegisterDeviceNotificationA (hwnd=0x100c4, filter=0x33d598,flags=0x00000004) returns a fake device notification handle!
fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x33d04c,0x00000000), stub!

I've not seen the "fake device notification" message before. It also reports it again when Steam locks up again when using the client after it has started up (when switching between sections in the client normally).

What does this warning message actually mean? Because it seems whatever is causing the warning is the thing causing these lockups in the client.

Machine is a Lenovo Ideapad S205 running the ATi FGLRX driver.
