A bit of DRM malarkey going on their I'm afraid:
DVDFab Platinum registration code does not work (http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13114)
(presuming you are talking about the same/similar version of DVDFab.)

I do still love DVD & BD Rebuilder - since the author is brilliant about bug fixes and development:

Sadly a bit Windows only (/ Wine)!! Does give superior quality (I re-encode using the excellent HC encoder)...

RE native tools I hear very good things about Handbrake (http://handbrake.fr/).
