Can I just add to that list (if DODS is still not working) to make sure you have a newer (1.3.13+ I think) Wine version. Valve (fairly) recently updated all their Source-based games on Steam to a newer Source Engine version. 

Same goes for your graphics cards proprietary driver of course...
