Yeah im thinking about just getting a bigger ssd and put it in on the next paycheck to ride myself of this annoyance. I really like ubuntu its just nothing is playable on this setup it seems.

when I go to load a file in terminal I get no text logging what so ever it just sits there as if its trying to load somthing yet does nothing until i have to quit terminal

Maybe thats the issue.

I just download the version that comes with the ubuntu installer. However it looks like its worked since version 9.9
