The 11th Annual AVCJ Asia Private Equity & Venture Capital Awards took place on 7th.Nov, recognizing the outstanding achievements and exceptional individuals that have made an impression on the industry in the last 12 months. Philip Bilden of Harbourvest Partners wins the AVCJ Special Achievement.
The AVCJ Asian Private Equity & Venture Capital Awards recognizes individuals, firms and transactions that have contributed to the success of the Asian private equity and venture capital industry. The Awards are the industry’s highest distinction in the region, acknowledge by practitioners as the platform from which to showcase first-class performance, ingenuity and success.
Deal of the Year is awarded to Hyva Holdings (Unitas Capital), which EUR525 million ($723 million) acquisition of Hyva Holdings from 3i makes the list by virtue of its high-yield bond, the first time such a financial instrument has been used in a leveraged private equity deal in Asia. 
Archer Capital wins Firm of the Year. Despite difficult fundraising conditions in Australia, Archer Capital is said to be making steady progress with its fifth fund, which is seeking a reported $1.5 billion.
 
IPO of the Year belongs to Yonghui Superstores, which raised RMB2.64 billion ($415 million) in Shanghai in December 2010, pricing at the top end of its indicative range. HSBC Private Equity, now known as Headland Capital Partners, invested around $77.8 million in the company across two rounds, in 2007 and 2008. Its stake in the company is now worth over $680 million.
 
Sandeep Singhal (Nexus Venture Partners) wins Venture Capital Professional of the Year. He has been an entrepreneur and a pioneer of Venture Capital in India. Several of his earlier investments have had successful exits, including CustomerAsset (acquired by Firstsource), Mentorix Solutions (acquired by Lionbridge), Intigma (acquired by Emptoris), and MakeMyTrip (sale to SAIF Partners).
Besides, Fundraising of the Year is awarded to Baring Asia Private Equity Fund V for its short period to close its fifth fund at $2.4 billion, well in excess of its original target of $1.75 billion. And Beijing Leader & Harvest Electric Technologies is Trade Sale of the Year; Peter Wiggs (Archer Capital) wins Private Equity Professional of the Year.
 
The 24th Annual AVCJ Forum kicked off yesterday with a presentation by Johanna Chua, Managing Director & Chief Asia Pacific Economist and Head of Asia Pacific Economic and Market Analysis, CITI. The AVCJ Forum will bring to Hong Kong, and the rest of Asia, the most senior figures of the private equity world, convening in the region to host and attend investor meetings, country briefings, deal signings and other related events.
